Seed founder and CEO Adam Bly delivered a lecture this evening at the Royal Society in London titled “Our 21st Century Scientific Renaissance” to an audience of policymakers and scientists. The lecture is part of the Policy Lab Series organized by the Royal Society’s newly formed Science Policy Centre.
The Royal Society, one of the world’s oldest scientific academies, celebrates its 350th anniversary next year. The Science Policy Centre has been developed as part of the Royal Society’s anniversary goals of influencing policymaking with the best scientific advice.

03.17: ScienceBlogs Announces the Launch of ScienceBlogs Brazil
ScienceBlogs.com, the web’s largest science community, announced today the launch of its newest international site, ScienceBlogs Brazil (scienceblogs.com.br).
ScienceBlogs Brazil brings together the most original and influential voices within the Brazilian science community, some of whom have already won accolades for their blogging. Edited from São Paulo by Carlos Hotta and Atila Iamarino, ScienceBlogs Brazil launches today with 23 Portuguese-language blogs on topics ranging from genetics to the environment.

02.17: Seed at the World Economic Forum
Seed was commissioned by the World Economic Forum to develop a custom visualization for their 2009 annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
With 180 sessions over the course of several days, made up of hundreds of participants, connections between sessions and themes are too complicated to be immediately apparent. The Forum sought a way to depict the interrelationships between concepts and ideas covered during the course of the week. Seed’s visualization expert, Ben Fry, produced an image for WEF’s program that highlighted these connections in an visually engaging way, while also revealing the complexity beneath. Adam Bly, CEO of Seed Media Group, will speak at the Council on Competitiveness in Washington, DC next week. America’s innovation leaders will gather in the nation’s capital on November 14, to celebrate America’s cutting-edge innovations and to mark the 20th anniversary of the Council on Competitiveness. The event will coincide with the November 13th release of Competitiveness Index: Where America Stands - the first assessment of America’s position in the global economy since September 11, 2001.
DuPont CEO Chad Holliday, chairman of the Council on Competitiveness, will lead the day-long Innovation Symposium. Adam Bly, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Seed, will speak at the Festival della Scienza in Genoa, Italy today. The festival, now in its fourth year, attracts approximately 250,000 visitors. The whole city of Genoa, with its squares and historical palaces, from the harbour to the theatres, will be the stage for a rich programme of more than 250 events.

Seed Media Group today announced that its flagship publication, Seed, has received nominations in two categories in the 2006 Utne Independent Press Awards competition.
From among more than 1,200 magazines in contention, Seed garnered a nomination for General Excellence as well as one for Science/Technology Coverage.
The winners of the 2006 Utne Independent Press Awards will be announced in January, 2007.
10.1: Seed Expands Distribution to 350 College Bookstores Operated by Barnes & Noble
Seed Media Group today announced that Seed has again increased its domestic newsstand distribution footprint with the addition of the more than 350 college bookstores managed and operated by preeminent book retailer Barnes & Noble.
Beginning with the November issue, which appeared on newsstands October 1, Seed is now sold at bookstores that serve hundreds of major universities, small colleges, graduate schools and other institutions of higher learning in virtually every state in the US.
“Seed readers are among the most educated of any magazine in the US,” noted Adam Bly, Seed Media Group Founder, CEO and Editor-in-Chief. “After the success we’ve experienced on newsstands at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide, it seemed only natural to expand the reach of our distribution to students, faculty, researchers and others in the higher education community through this highly targeted channel.”
